Glass REthink:
Why Glass Jar Candles Need to be Cancelled.
Did you know that Borosilicate glass can’t be recycled?
Glass candles are crafted from Borosilicate glass, a hardy material that can withstand thermal shock. Why? So they won’t shatter when the wax heats up making this type of candle safe to use in the home.
This safety process comes at a price to the environment. These types of glass such as Pyrex, oven-proof glass, drinking glasses, mirrors and crystal are all designed to withstand higher temperatures mainly due to their intended use. Its thermal durability means it doesn’t melt in regular recycling furnaces like other types of glass. So what?
Uncommon Knowledge
Due to the lack of awareness around Borosilicate glass, many of these used candle jars wind up in recycling bins. This contaminates anything in its path and less recycling and means more jars ending up in landfill.
Additionally, due to vague or no information given on council websites or notices, people believe they are doing a good deed by placing their used candle vessels in their home recycling unaware of the damage they are potentially causing down the recycling chain.
Our aim is to educate others on the negatives of glass jar candles and help others and the environment with the introduction of our eco friendly refillable candles.
One jar. Forever. (well, unless you break it of course!)
